For years scientists have known that Attine ants cultivate fungi farms for food and shelter in a symbiotic relationship. But bacteriologist Cameron Currie has just discovered that those same ants also carry antibiotic-producing bacteria in pockets in their exoskeleton! The bacteria help the ants defend against a parasitic fungus.
