BALTIMORE: Three times a year, independent booksellers, exposed to thousands of books, get to pick their very favorites through the American Booksellers Association's Book Sense program. And the first two books in Nick Ruth's Remin Chronicles young adult fantasy series have both been chosen as Book Sense Children's Picks.

The first book, The Dark Dreamweaver, has racked up several honors and awards in the year since it was first published. But Book 2, The Breezes of Inspire, has only been in stores for two months. "This is a significant honor this early in the cycle," noted publisher Sheila Ruth. "It shows that a tiny publisher like Imaginator Press can succeed with great fiction for children. And that Nick is developing a following among booksellers and the public."

Ruth, a homeschooling dad and government employee, has been compared to L. Frank Baum, author of the Wizard of Oz series. The Breezes of Inspire, Book 2 in Ruth's series, The Remin Chronicles, was published in September 2005.

Like The Dark Dreamweaver, which has a major theme involving the lifecycles of monarch butterflies, The Breezes of Inspire blends environmental science with magic and fantasy. Book 2 slowly reveals the workings of one of nature's most miraculous processes: symbiosis (life forms that cannot exist without each other).

"This sequel to the Ben Franklin Award finalist The Dark Dreamweaver is many things: a wonderful midgrade fantasy, a science teaching tool for symbiosis, and a really good read. This time, protagonist David includes his cousins in a visit to the world of Remin and beyond. They have many adventures and all become wizards of magic in their own way."
